Winter Salad Toppers

On a seasonal kick? You should be. Fruits and veggies in season not only taste better, but have  more nutrients than their out of season counter parts and are less expensive.That's a triple win!

Here are some healthy winter "toppers" you can add to any salad or grain bowl to boost its nutritional content and flavor. Crunchy. Sweet. Nutty. Tangy. All of the options below are heart healthy, great for any active lifestyle and absolutely delicious!!!!!



Winter Toppers:
Pomegranate Seeds
Pumpkin Seeds*
Grapefruit (fresh or lightly broiled)
Dates*

Shaved Brussels Sprouts (raw or roasted)
Beets (grated or roasted)*:
Carrots (grated or roasted)*:
Fennel (shaved or roasted)*:
Parsnips (grated or roasted):

Roasted Sweet Potatoes
Roasted Butternut or Acorn Squash

*Items are also known to help new moms with their milk supply.

Don't forget to be creative with your greens as well. Adding winter greens to your salad base like radicchio, escarole and/or kale can add a wonderful depth of flavor, interesting texture, and tons of great nutrients.
