"Shaddock" fruit was first discovered in Barbados and later renamed "Grapefruit" given its resemblance to grapes - growing in small clusters on a tree (they were a bit smaller back then).

Today, grapefruits are primarily grown in Florida and Arizona - with each grapefruit tree producing between 1300 and 1500 pounds of fruit a year. That's a lot of fruit!

Whether you squeeze it for juice, eat it plain, have it on a salad or pair it with your main meal, grapefruits are great for you.

Known as an excellent source of Vitamin C (which is great for the immune system) grapefruits also contain a good amount of Vitamin A (important for growth and the good health of cells and tissues), as well as Vitamins B6, Niacin, thiamin, calcium, potassium and magnesium.
